Olympia – Washington Stonewall Democrats, a grassroots network of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender activists, announced their support this week for Stew Henderson, the leading Democrat in the race for the 22nd District House seat.
“Stew is the only candidate in the race with a long history of commitment to equal rights. For over 30 years, Stew has been an activist and advocate for rights, respect, and dignity for all," said Chris Porter, Executive Vice President of Washington Stonewall Democrats. “The LGBT community could not ask for a stronger advocate in Olympia.”
“Last year, I worked hard to pass Referendum 71 to protect civil partnerships for the elderly and for gay and lesbian couples,” said Henderson. “I’ll take that commitment to the Legislature and fight for full rights for all members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and broader community.”
Henderson’s campaign crossed another milestone this week: he has now raised more than $55,000. Henderson, the official nominee of the Democratic Party, has also earned the support of Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE/AFSCME), Sierra Club, Washington Conservation Voters, Thurston Conservation Voters, NARAL Pro-Choice Washington, and dozens of elected officials and community leaders.
